Whether you are stepping into a studio for the very first time or looking to rekindle a long-lost creative passion, this workshop offers a supportive, empowering environment designed to help you build confidence and skill at your very own pace.
A Collaborative, Project-Based Experience
Every single workshop is a unique, choose-your-own-adventure experience. Upon arrival, you will browse through the studio’s gallery to view an inspiring array of sample projects. As a collective, the class will come to a democratic consensus on what that session’s specific focus and instruction will be!
Potential projects include:
    • Elegant Plates & Platters
    • Cozy, Hand-Sculpted Mugs
    • Intricate Wall Tiles
    • Seasonal Holiday Ornaments
    • Sculpted Animal
    • Whimsical Ceramic Wind Chimes… and so much more!
With each session you attend, you will build upon your knowledge. Over time, you’ll unlock the skills to tackle all of these projects and confidently bring your own custom designs to life.
What You’ll Learn
This series focuses heavily on tactile, hand-building techniques. You will get hands-on experience learning how to:
    • Operate a studio slab roller to create perfectly even clay sheets.
    • Master the foundational rules of scoring and slipping to securely attach clay pieces.
    • Imprint rich marks and textures using organic plants, woven fabrics, and everyday found objects.
    • Design and carve your own custom clay stamps.
    • Understand the science and artistry of ceramic glazes.

CERAMIC JOURNEY CHALLANGE WORKSHOP (TWO)  – 2 days, 10-2pm  / $185.00 includes both days, all the materials and 2 kiln firing.

Ready to take your hand-building skills to the next level? If you’ve discovered the magic of clay in our foundational “Ceramic Journey” workshop and are hungry for more, it’s time to step up to the Ceramic Journey Challenge!
This advanced-level studio experience is specifically designed for returning students who are ready to push past the basics, embrace bigger creative risks, and master complex ceramic techniques under the expert guidance of artist Deborah Landry.
Accept the Challenge: Elevate Your Craft
In our introductory workshops, you mastered the slab roller, learned how to attach clay securely, and explored the world of texture. The Ceramic Journey Challenge takes those exact foundational skills and pushes them into three dimensions, larger scales, and more intricate engineering.
In this advanced series, the single-project focus gets an upgrade. You will dive into technically challenging builds, such as:
    • Complex Multi-Part Assemblies: Moving from simple mugs to lidded vessels, teapots, or complex box forms with tight-fitting seams.
    • Sculptural & Large-Scale Slab Builds: Learning how to support heavy clay walls, build monumental platters without warping, and create structurally sound, multi-tiered wind chimes or wall hangings.
    • Advanced Surface & Stamp Integration: Combining your handmade stamps with intricate slip-trailing, wax-resist techniques, and multi-layered glazing strategies to create profound depth on your surfaces.

How the Journey Works (A Two-Part Process) (Workshop ONE)
Working with ceramic clay is a slow, beautiful art form that requires patience. To complete a project from start to finish, these classes require multiple dates:
    1. Session 1 (The Wet Clay Phase): You will roll, sculpt, texture, and construct your raw clay project. Once finished, your piece must slowly air-dry in the studio before undergoing its first kiln cycle (the bisque firing). This drying and initial firing process takes approximately 2 to 3 weeks.
    2. Session 2 (The Glazing Phase): You will return to the studio to paint, dip, or brush your bisqueware with colorful ceramic glazes. Your piece then goes back into the kiln for its final, high-temperature glaze firing.
    3. The Reveal: Once the second firing is complete, your durable, beautiful, and completely functional ceramic masterpiece is ready for pickup!

How the Challenge Works (Workshop TWO)
Just like your initial journey, this workshop is a collaborative, supportive environment that moves at your pace, but with a deeper focus on individual problem-solving.
  • The Gallery Consultation: Upon arrival, the class will look through an advanced gallery of samples to collectively choose a challenging project focus.
  • Advanced Troubleshooting: Deborah will work closely with you to dissect the structural physics of your piece, helping you figure out how to prevent cracking, handle uneven drying, and push the limits of the clay body safely.
  • The Two-Part Process: Because we are building bigger and more complex structures, proper drying time is more critical than ever. You will spend the first session engineering your wet clay project, leave it to undergo its 2-to-3-week bisque firing, and return for an advanced glazing session.
