The Magic of Easy-Carve Blocks
Forget the frustrating, rock-hard woodblocks of traditional printmaking. In this workshop, we use specialized “easy-carve” blocks. This rubber-like material carves smoothly and effortlessly, like cutting through butter. It allows you to focus purely on the joy of creating bold lines, intricate textures, and clean designs without strain or frustration.
What You’ll Learn and Experience
Over the course of this workshop, we will guide you safely through the entire design and print process:

- Design & Transfer: Learn how to sketch a design and perfectly transfer it onto your carving block (including how to handle letters and numbers so they don’t print backward!).
- Safe Carving Techniques: Master the use of linoleum cutting tools. You’ll learn which V-shaped and U-shaped gouges to use to create fine details, deep negative spaces, and beautiful textures.
- Inking & Pressing: Discover how to roll out specialized block-printing inks smoothly with a brayer and apply even pressure to pull a flawless image.

The absolute best part of relief printmaking? Once your custom block is carved, it lasts for years and can be used on almost anything. In this class, we will explore the incredible versatility of your new handmade stamp:

Note: Because we will be using sharp carving gouges, this workshop is recommended for adults and teens.
