The adjective collaborative describes something accomplished by working together with others. With a collaborative effort, a big job can be completed in very little time. When you collaborate, you cooperate, or join forces, with other people — working on a project, brainstorming ideas, even assigning responsibility for who will do what. So something that has these qualities is collaborative. From playing in a band to making a movie, feeding the students at a school to building a house, when you work toward a shared goal, it’s collaborative.

Collaborative Carpentry’s mission is to empower, teach and evolve through learning and building. We teach all materials and methods to empower you to create the world you want to live in. We teach woodworking, ceramics, painting, sewing, landscaping and homesteading. Life is Art, learn to be an artist and craft your destiny and nurture your soul.

No Skill Level Required

Set aside all the misconceptions. Years of learning from men, by men what you like, your abilities, your limitations, visions and dreams. I am saying with confidence that if you can dream it you can achieve it.

Instructor

Deborah Landry one of the first two women to be trained as a carpenter in the US Air Force. She has a long history of creating art, teaching, and carpentry. She works as a public artist and works in every material including concrete and mosaics with handmade ceramic tiles. In her Lithia Springs, GA studio you can work in clay, wood, concrete, as well as paper making, painting and printmaking just to name a few possibilities. We hope you will stop by and see what is possible. We look forward to meeting you.

What is this about?

In a nutshell it is “On the Job Training ”. Trainees/apprentices get training while doing jobs for members. Members take turns being on the calendar with jobs, for example, the jobs can be house repairs, building furniture or permaculture projects like rain barrels or building a firepit. Members are both Trainee/apprentices as well as Job Hosts. The On the Job Training is designed to be more than simple knowledge, it is designed to be skilled. There will be certifications for each task. When you are certified you will be skilled to the point you can become a paid member.

Become a Apprentice

Apprentice (Pay per training event.) On the job training. Work toward certification of proficiency in any method or material.

Training cost will be adjusted as confidence and proficiency is demonstrated. Each method and material will have separate evaluation. Sliding cost scale will include an opportunity to make money once certified in a task/material/method.

Fill out the project request sheet
Pay $150 Deposit (this can change)
$50 goes toward Co-Op operational cost, calendar, website,newsletter, and more
$100 goes toward project management, design, and planning project outcome, budget, time table and recruit apprentices work force.
Work Requirement, the intent of collaborative Carpentry Co-Op is that each person participates in the labor of the jobs they are trained.
The amount you pay for labor on your project will be adjusted based on your participation as an apprentice. We understand that some people will only want to hire us to do a project and not take part in the training. If the latter is the case the labor will be detained at a base rate of $50 an hour. (this can change)

Project Host Responsibility

Pay $150 to get on calendar
Work with the project manager to identify and design process plan and sign work scope agreements.
Pay hourly rate (TBD)
Pay for materials
Pay for material shopping, pickup and delivery
Provide safe place to work
Provide snacks and refresments.
